Experience the beauty of Pittwater in Beneteau’s Oceanis 40.1

Every year, Sydneysiders explore up and down the Australian East Coast in search of the perfect cruising ground. Some cover hundreds of miles in their search for beautiful landscapes and tranquillity. Ironically, they may be overlooking an area that has all these virtues in abundance – right under their nose: Pittwater!

Less than an hour’s drive from Sydney’s CBD and flanked by National Parks, the area is often called ‘Sydney’s best-kept secret’.

The best-kept secret

When naming this beautiful stretch of water, Governor Arthur Phillip said it was “the finest piece of water I ever saw,” and he was not wrong.

To this day Pittwater remains a perfect sailing ground for everyone from novice sailors through to experienced seamen.

This pretty waterway is set between Australia’s second-oldest national park and a stunning peninsula.

Pittwater is one of those places where you could stay a night or a whole week (probably even more!). And what better way to discover it than on board your very own Beneteau Oceanis 40.1?

Why sail Pittwater on  JO Boating’s – Beneteau’s Oceanis 40.1

Protected waters

You’re always taking a chance with the weather no matter where you go on an ocean getaway.

However, in Pittwater, with its predominant northeast sea breezes sweeping down over Barrenjoey Peninsula and offering protection from the often rowdy Tasman Sea swells, you’ll be able to enjoy the wind without the downside of big waves.

Soar over flat calm water and anchor in hundreds of locations without the slightest trace of a swell of any kind.

Of course, if you want to experience big seas, just nip out into the open ocean anytime you like. This is one of the easiest ports to enter and leave from in Australia as there is no bar to cross, no dangerous offshore reefs and great navigational aids. As the Oceanis 40.1’s focus is comfort and easy manoeuvering, this will be a breeze.

You won’t get bored sailing back and forth in a little bay either. The Pittwater-Broken Bay-Cowen Waters cruising grounds have a total of 36.8 nautical miles of protected sailing waters.

Plenty of Anchorages

You’ll find plenty of places to pull up for a few hours or even the night – ranging from the total quiet of a beautiful wilderness location to right in front of a popular disco (whatever floats your boat).

Nothing beats life at anchor on the Oceanis 40.1.

The ergonomics and free flow of the cockpit make life on board relaxing and enjoyable.

Having access to the sea is an integral part of life on a sailing yacht, especially in summer. The transform on the Oceanis 40.1 easily converts to an extensive swim platform with a drop-down swim ladder.

Once you’ve finished splashing, rinse the salt water off with the hot/cold swim shower.

If you’ve decided to stay the night, you’ll get to really enjoy the interior cabin that oozes ambience. The remarkably light living spaces have been cleverly arranged to optimise both style and comfort. It’s like having your very own portable 5-star hotel!

Hungry? Eat aboard, have a picnic ashore, call for pizza or dine out in some of the best restaurants the northern beaches have to offer. There are moorings available nearly everywhere you go and the Beneteau Oceanis 401, is equally at home at anchor.

Surf and swim beaches

There aren’t many places in the world where you can anchor your yacht, dinghy ashore, and stroll along beautiful beaches or through dense forests.

The water is clear and the absence of waves makes it a perfect playground for paddle boarding.

Wanting something a little quieter?

Many of the beaches in Pittwater are only accessible by boat, making it a whole lot less busy than Sydney Harbour. These beaches are unspoilt, uncrowded and unbelievably beautiful.

Recreational waters

Pittwater is a recreational, not a commercial port.

Unlike Sydney Harbour with its heavy traffic of commercial vessels, ships and ferries, Broken Bay waterways are filled with pleasure boats and bordered by clean beaches and people enjoying a relaxed vacation lifestyle.
